The Salvation Army in the Inland Northwest
The Salvation Army has been operating in the Inland Northwest since 1891, when three officers marched through a small downtown Spokane and conducted their first "open-air" service.
The Salvation Army today offers many life-changing programs to the people of the Inland Northwest, with the Spokane Corps offering such vital services as:
- Food, rental and utility assistance
- S.A.F.E. Homeless Family Shelter
- Transitional Housing to bridge the gap between homelessness and independent living
- Thanksgiving meal distribution
- Summer Camping at Camp Gifford for children from low-income families
- Youth tutoring and education
- Sally's House Emergency Foster Care home
- Worship services and family-oriented church ministry
- Referrals to adult rehabilitation
- Professional counselling services for foster children
- Training for foster parents
- After-school programs
- Sports and aquatics programs
- Disaster services
- Thrift Store
- Christmas kettle drive
The Salvation Army has a vision to meet more of the Inland Northwest's needs. Through the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Coeur d'Alene, we believe that through a positive environment and provision of services to the public, many people will be given the opportunity to enjoy facilities which were previously out of their reach and also to participate as active members of their community.
